CHILD SUPPORT OVERVIEW
Child Support
A party can seek child support either through California Child Supportive Services or through a family law proceeding.
In general, child support can either be agreed upon based on an equitable amount. The court can then approve the agreement and make it an order. On the other hand, if no agreement is made then the court will look at guideline requirements and take into consideration income, parenting time, and other relevant facts. Thereafter, the court can issue a judgment and make it an order.
If a party fails to pay court-ordered child support then the remedies can include contempt, license suspension, liens on accounts and/or property, and even revocation of professional licenses.
Modification, in general, can also be sought when change in income and/or parenting time changes. Please allow us to help you determine potential outcomes.
